DEC Closes Sandy Creek Boat Launch on Lake Ontario

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has temporarily closed the Sandy Creek Boat Launch in Monroe County because of high water levels on Lake Ontario.

The closure took effect immediately after a recent DEC inspection found that rising lake levels had caused the facility’s docks to become significantly submerged, creating a safety hazard for boaters.

The Sandy Creek Boat Launch is located in the Town of Hamlin on the southern shore of Lake Ontario. State officials are urging boaters to use alternative launch sites in Monroe County until conditions improve. Anyone with questions about the closure can contact the DEC’s Region 8 Fisheries Office at (585) 226-2466.

The DEC has not announced when the Sandy Creek Boat Launch is expected to reopen.
