An emergency landing at an airport in Monroe County ended without injuries Thursday evening despite a catastrophic mechanical failure aboard a small aircraft.

Firefighters were dispatched to Ledgedale Airpark in Brockport shortly after 7 p.m. following reports of a Cessna aircraft on fire.

Emergency responders determined the aircraft was not on fire but had experienced a serious mechanical problem that forced the pilot to make an emergency landing.

According to reports from the scene, the plane was carrying a pilot and a student when it suffered catastrophic engine failure after losing its propeller in flight.

The aircraft was able to land safely at the airpark, and neither occupant was injured.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the incident.
