New York Attorney General Letitia James is reminding voters that help is available if they encounter problems during this month’s primary election.
James announced that the Attorney General’s Election Protection Hotline will be available throughout the early voting period, which runs from Saturday through June 21, as well as on Primary Election Day, June 23.
The hotline is designed to assist voters experiencing issues with mail-in voting, in-person voting, voter registration, accessibility concerns, or other election-related problems.
“Our nation was built on the promise of fair and equal elections,” James said. “No one should feel unsafe or intimidated when casting their ballots.”
Voters can call the Election Protection Hotline at 866-390-2992 for assistance. The hotline will operate from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. during early voting, from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Election Day, and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on June 22 and June 24. Voters may also submit complaints online at any time.
The Attorney General’s Office noted that all registered voters have the right to cast their ballots free from intimidation or coercion. State law also requires polling places to remain open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Election Day, and anyone in line by closing time must be allowed to vote.
The Election Protection Hotline has been operating since 2012 and has handled hundreds to thousands of voter complaints during previous election cycles.
