A 94-year-old Aurora woman has died following a crash in the Town of Venice on Tuesday afternoon.
Cayuga County Sheriff Brian Schenck says the collision occurred around 2:19 p.m. at the intersection of Poplar Ridge Road and Route 34B. A preliminary investigation indicates a silver Toyota Corolla, driven by Elizabeth MacCormick, failed to yield the right of way and was struck by a northbound dump truck.
MacCormick, the sole occupant of the Toyota, was pronounced dead at the scene. The dump truck operator, 77-year-old Charles Signor, was uninjured and remained on scene, cooperating with investigators.
The investigation is ongoing. Multiple agencies assisted at the scene, including New York State Police, Cayuga County 911, the Coroner’s Office, Southern Cayuga Ambulance, Four Town Ambulance, Long Hill Fire Dept, Scipio Fire Dept, Poplar Ridge Fire Dept., The Town of Venice Highway Department and the NYS Department of Transportation.
