As Weedsport moves ahead with its NY Forward grant application, the Cayuga County Planning Department & Economic Development wants you to know there’s still time to submit projects for consideration.
Javier Zavaleta is the planner who is helping the village with its application. He told Finger Lakes News Radio that, while there is no deadline for submissions at this time, he is asking that all applications be submitted by the end of August to allow for ample time to put together the grant application to send to the state.
“We try to take in as many projects as possible and we try to take in as many people as we can or as many projects as we can to move forward,” said Zavelata.
Once all applications are in work will begin on setting up the proposed downtown boundary and selecting which projects will go into the application that will be sent to New York for consideration.
New for this year, NY Forward applicants must be designated as pro-housing communities. Zavelata added that Weedsport has already received this designation so that won’t be an issue.
More information on the village’s bid for the $2.5 million grant including how to submit an application can be found here.
NY Forward was created last year to help revitalize the downtowns of communities typically too small for DRI funding.
Moravia was one of the winners of the inaugural round of NY Forward funding.
