Bad news for one Cayuga County village.
Weedsport has not been selected as a Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) or NY Forward recipient. The village had applied in October for the eighth round of DRI and the third round of NY Forward awards. While able to simultaneously apply for both, Weedsport was eligible to win either the DRI or NY Forward funding.
The governor announced last week that the Village of Pulaski would be awarded the $10 million DRI and the Villages of Chittenango and Marathon for the Central New York Region. For funding purposes, Cayuga County municipalities are placed in the CNY economic development region, competing against municipalities in Cortland, Madison, Onondaga, and Oswego Counties.
New for this round of funding, communities had to be designated to be certified as pro-housing communities in order to be eligible, something Weedsport achieved in August.
Downtown Revitilzation Initiative and NY Forward awards are meant to aid in the downtown recovery efforts of communities across the state.
