What’s the next step as the Weedsport Warriors transition into the Weedsport Wolverines?
The school district is inviting residents to help with the conceptual design process for the new mascot and logo. Ideas, feedback, and designs can be emailed to the school by December 29. A committee of students and staff will then take this feedback and make recommendations to the Board of Education for the professionally designed logo.
Weedsport made the announcement last month that it would adopt the Wolverines moniker, choosing it over the Thunderbolts.
The catalyst for the change is a ruling by the state Education Department all schools using Native American mascots or imagery replace them by the end of this school year.
Designs and feedback can be sent to [email protected]. The district has also compiled a list of criteria for potential designs including recognizability, memorability, and relevance. Criteria can be viewed on the district’s website.
