Assemblyman John Lemondes was in Auburn Wednesday for a town hall meeting.
The event, lasting a little over an hour, took place at VFW Post 1975 and saw approximately four dozen people in attendance.
During this time, Lemondes spoke on a variey of topics including his disdain for Governor Kathy Hochul’s plan to close up to five state prisons and what he calls democrats’ anti-police policies. This echoes comments he made at a previous Back the Blue event he attended at the Springside Inn.
He also expressed his support for requiring people to show IDs to vote and stated that he would not support Proposition One, a statewide ballot measure that would amend Article 1 of the state constitution to protect against unequal treatment based on ethnicity, national origin, age, disability, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, or pregnancy outcomes.
On the subject of Owasco Lake, Auburn City Councilor Terry Cuddy was in attendance and questioned why Lemondes didn’t lend his support to proposed changes to the lake’s watershed’s Rules & Regulations. Lemondes, who earlier in the night called himself a conservationist, claimed that the data used in the proposed changes was challenged and therefore he couldn’t support the changes.
After a back and forth between supporters of the updated Rules & Regulations and the assemblyman, Lemondes agreed to review his notes and have an in-person discussion with supporters about the data in question.
Ultimately, the state would deny the requested changes.
Lemondes will hold a similar event at the Camillus Municipal Building on Wednesday at 6:00p.
