As part of its annual Day of Caring event, United Way of Cayuga County will hold a blood drive on Thursday, August 7, at Cayuga Community College in Auburn. The drive will run from 11:00a-4:00p in the college’s gym.
While all blood types are needed, O, B-, and A- donors are asked to consider making a power red donation.
Those giving blood will receive a $15 e-gift card to their choice of merchant.
Appointments are encouraged and can be done by visiting RedCrossBlood.org or calling 1-800-733-2767. The Red Cross adds that those with Rapid Pass can save up to 15 minutes during their donations by completing their pre-donation reading and health history questions on the day of their appointment.
The drive is part of the group’s annual Day of Caring event, which sees volunteers come together to assist nonprofits across the county with a variety of projects, including planting, stair repair, administrative work, and gardening. Last year, 220 volunteers completed 16 projects.
August 7 is also the official kick-off of United Way’s annual Personal Care Drive. That initiative sees United Way collect personal hygiene items to later distribute to the county’s food pantries, soup kitchens, and shelters.
