Southern Cayuga Narrows Nickname Finalists to Three

The Southern Cayuga School District has narrowed down its finalists’ choices for a new mascot from 11 to three. The finalists are the Red Dragons, Cougars, and Knights.

On its website, the district said it will soon release more information on how the three finalists were selected, potential logos, and how students, staff, and community members will be able to vote in the next few weeks.

The use of Native American imagery and mascots by New York schools was barred by the state Education Department back in the Spring. Southern Cayuga retired the Chiefs logo several years ago.
