Don’t be alarmed if you see a large law enforcement presence at one area school district next week.
During February Break, the Moravia Central School District is letting the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office use its schools for Critical Incident Training. The training is designed to give law enforcement personnel the skills needed to respond to critical incidents, such as medical or criminal situations, that may take place at schools throughout the county.
The district said that law enforcement will mainly use the middle school meaning part of the building will be closed to the public. The south parking lot of the high school/middle school will also be used as a staging area for patrol vehicles.
The sheriff’s office asks a different district each year to host its personnel for the training. This allows deputies to become familiar with each district’s buildings.
The district added that athletic and musical practices will not be directly affected by the training; however, there may be a slight delay for visitors to the fitness center which usually opens at 3:00p.
The training will last from 8:00a-4:00p on Monday through Thursday of next week.
