Cayuga County’s School Threat Assessment Team was formed just before this school year.
With the school year winding down, Sheriff Brian Schenck told the county legislature’s Judicial & Public Safety Committee the initiative is a success.
“We’ve had some great success with [the initiative] with a few cases that really concerned me. I think I mentioned that before with kids in our school districts,” Schenck to legislators. “But if we can prevent violence in our community by working on this initiative, then I’m all for it, and it certainly appears that it is working.”
The team seeks to address threatening behavior before it can escalate in schools.
Schenck adds that he wants to expand the program beyond schools
