Brian Scanlan spent nearly 25 years with the Auburn Fire Department, retiring as a captain.
Speaking with Finger Lakes New Radio, Scanlan said that experience makes him the right person to become Cayuga County’s next clerk when Sue Dwyer retires.
“Being a fire officer, you have to learn to multitask. You have to learn to work well with other people in high-stress situations and also in administrative situations. And in downtime, there’s plenty of administrative duties do to. I really feel on multiple levels there that I am the best candidate for the job.”
After leaving the fire department, Scanlan started his own business and now works for the Auburn School District as a part-time security guard at Auburn High School.
Scanlan, who while not belonging to the party, has been endorsed by Democrats, is running against Republican Chris Petrus and Conservative Kristine Lytle to become Cayuga County Clerk. Lytle has also cited her experience, working for the DMV in her case, as a plus for voters.
Election day will be November 7th.
