Registration is once again open for a summer camp celebrating local history.
Now in its sixth year, the Hands-On History Summer Camp is a collaboration between the Cayuga Museum and Case Research Lab, Harriet Tubman National Historical Park, Seward House Museum, and Seymour Library that allows children ages 8-10 to learn about Auburn’s rich history through hands-on activities. Activities include historical games, archaeology, and attending a Victorian tea party.
Seward House Education and Outreach Coordinator Kate Grindstaff is spearheading this year’s programming. She told Finger Lakes News Radio that, new for this year, campers will end the weeklong event by creating their own museum exhibits.
“At the end of the week, they get to create their own exhibit and have an exhibit opening for their parents, grandparents, and guardians to show off what they learned throughout the week,” said Grindstaff.
This year’s camp runs July 22-26.
Registration costs $100 per camper; however, scholarships are available. To reserve a spot or ask questions, you can reach Grindstaff at 315-252-1283 ext. 7 or [email protected]. More information can be found at sewardhouse.org.
