Police Investigate Reported Threat at Cayuga Community College; Auburn Schools Closed

SHARE NOW

A police investigation is underway after a reported threat was made to a local college this morning.

The Auburn Police Department states that officers were notified during the early morning hours about a possible threat at Cayuga Community College. Police immediately responded to the campus to assess the situation.

Shortly after arriving, investigators contacted college officials and also notified the Auburn Enlarged City School District about the reported threat, because of the Junior High School’s proximity to the college campus. Out of an abundance of caution, the district closed schools for the day to give authorities time to investigate fully.

In addition, the Cayuga Community College campuses in Auburn and Fulton are closed today.

Police said they are actively investigating and working to determine the validity of the threat. Officials also addressed rumors circulating about an individual being seen near or around the campus, stating that those reports are not true.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Auburn Police Department’s Detective Bureau and speak with Det. Frost at 315-255-4701.

Officials say updates will be provided as more details become available.

Here is the statement rewritten cleanly and as-is:

Statement from Cayuga Community College President Brian Durant:

“The safety and well-being of our students, staff, and faculty are always our top priorities at Cayuga Community College and guide every decision we make.

This morning, we were notified of a potential security concern involving our Auburn campus. Out of an abundance of caution, and in consultation with the Auburn Police Department, we made the decision to close both our Auburn and Fulton campuses for the day while authorities complete their investigation.”
