One man has been ticketed by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation for illegally killing turkeys in Montezuma.
According to the DEC, officers responded to a complaint on May 15 about a person taking turkeys over the limit in the town. Upon investigation, the person admitted to shooting three turkeys and taking them to a local taxidermist to make fan tail mounts. The person was then issued one ticket for taking over the limit of spring turkey and one ticket for hunting turkey without a valid permit.
Under New York law, hunters are allowed to take two bearded birds during the spring turkey season, but only one per day.
