Overdoses are down in Cayuga County.
According to data from the county, there have been 63 non fatal and three fatal overdoses between January and May of this year, down from 90 non fatal and three fatal over the same period last year.
Cayuga County Sheriff Brian Schenck says he’s cautiously optimistic about reducing overdoses. Speaking with FLX Morning, Schenck said “last year we had 14 fatalities in Cayuga County and we’re trying to continue to combat this problem with our community partners. And I think that we’re having some success looking at the data and the numbers, but we still have a lot of work to do.”
25-34 year olds make up the county’s largest demographic of those experiencing overdoses and Auburn has the largest concentration of annual overdoses.
