A new initiative by the Cayuga County Office of Tourism is looking to highlight black-owned businesses in the county.
“As we seek to invest in our own community, the importance of highlighting Black-owned businesses cannot be understated—during Black History Month and far beyond,” the office stated in a news release.
Tour Cayuga has launched a new webpage listing black-owned businesses countywide. Each month the office will use the page to highlight a specific business, featuring, photos, quotes from the owner, and more.
It is also hoped that the directory will also be used by the owners themselves to discover and connect.
The office said the announcement comes as part of February’s Black History Month celebrations and in recognition of the entrepreneurship of Harriet Tubman.
