Overdose deaths have decreased over the last two years in Cayuga County by 43%.
That’s according to Healing Cayuga, the organization working to combat overdose deaths in the county and get people the help they need overcoming addiction.
One contributing factor for the decline is believed to be the distribution of Narcan in the community.
The group plans to hold four free Narcan training events. Healing Cayuga will educate participants on how to recognize an overdose and administer Narcan. Those who complete the training will receive a Narcan kit, fentanyl test strips, medication disposal pouches, and a list of community resources, provided by the county’s mental health center.
Two deaths in the Cayuga County have been attributed to overdoses so far this year.
