Moravia Schools Helping Students Prepare for Eclipse

Students at one Finger Lakes school district are in for a special treat come April.

To mark the total solar eclipse, the Moravia Central School District is giving its students the afternoon off to watch the special event.

Paul Griser with the district told Finger Lakes News Radio that they felt it was important to let students witness the once-in-a-lifetime event with their friends and family.

“It’s very special that the district provided students with the opportunity to experience this,” said Griser. “The district felt it was very important for the students.”

He added that schools will also provide viewing glasses to every student, allowing them to safely view the event, as well as teach them about sun safety.

“They will also be taught that it’s still the sun and safety measures need to be taken. That is a big part of this for the school district,” Griser continued.

Science teachers are also planning special lessons for their classes relating to the sun and eclipses.

The total solar eclipse will occur on April 8.
