One of the men looking to represent New York’s 22nd Congressional District has been endorsed by a third party.

The New York Working Families Party has announced its support for Democrat State Senator John Mannion in his bid to unseat Republican Congressman Brandon Williams in the November election.

Jasmine Gripper, Co-Director of the New York Working Families Party said, “We’re proud to endorse John Mannion for Congress in the 22nd District. Working families in Central New York deserve a leader who will have their backs. As a public school teacher for nearly three decades, we know John will be a strong voice for high-quality public education, protecting workers’ rights, and making New York a place where working families can afford to live.”

The Central New York native spent 21 years teaching AP Biology and Chemistry at the West Genesee School District. He also coached soccer and tennis at the Onondaga County district.

Mannion, who currently represents New York’s 50th State Senate District, said in a statement that he’s grateful for the party’s support.

Senator John Mannion, candidate for NY-22 said, “I’m grateful to have earned the support of the Working Families Party for our campaign to flip NY-22 and restore honesty and decency to the U.S. Congress. Together, with our broad coalition of support from labor, teachers, healthcare professionals, elected officials, veterans, and community leaders, we can unseat MAGA Republican Brandon Williams and deliver the representation that residents of Central New York and the Mohawk Valley expect and deserve.”

After redistricting, the 22nd now consists of all of Onondaga and Madison Counties along with the Southern half of Cayuga and portions of Cortland and Oneida Counties. The district now also contains more registered Democrats than Republicans.
