Heads up for drivers in Cayuga County, a major bridge closure on Route 34 is about to last nearly one year.
The state DOT says Route 34 will shut down at the bridge over the Erie–Barge Canal and Seneca River in the towns of Brutus and Cato starting at 7 a.m. (December 1st). The bridge is being replaced, and the closure is expected to remain in place through November 2026.
Northbound motorists are advised to follow the signed detour that directs traffic to west on State Route 31, to north on State Route 38, to east on State Route 370, to State Route 34. Southbound motorists are advised to follow the signed detour that directs traffic to west on State Route 370, to south on State Route 38, to east on State Route 31, to State Route 34.
Travelers should expect delays and plan extra time.
