Two individuals, formerly incarcerated at the Auburn Correctional Facility, have been indicted by a grand jury for assaulting corrections officers.
The Cayuga County District Attorney’s Office reports 32-year-old Dejour Nesmith of Rochester is facing three counts of assault after allegedly attacking three officers while 34-year-old Windsor Coleman of Massapequa is charged with assaulting an additional two officers during an incident in the prison’s north mess hall on August 10, 2022.
Both men are accused of physically injuring the officers with the intent to prevent them from performing their duties.
Coleman was arraigned Tuesday before Judge Jon E. Budelmann in Cayuga County court while Nesmith was not arraigned, as he refused to leave his cell. He will be arraigned at a later date.
Each assault charge is punishable by up to seven years in prison followed by five years post-release supervision.
