The former ALCO/Bombardier plant in Auburn has a new owner.

Auburn East LLC, an affiliate of Missouri-based Commercial Development Company Inc, announced it has purchased the former manufacturing plant. The company specializes in acquiring and redeveloping underutilized and distressed properties.

“Our acquisition of this historic manufacturing plant represents a turning point for a property that has tremendous potential but has sat underutilized for far too long,” said Mark Hinds, Executive VP of Acquisitions. “Our team is well equipped to reposition this site for its next stage of life, likely to be manufacturing, warehousing, or industrial operations.”

The site features 237,480 sq ft with multiple buildings constructed in the 1940s. It also features truck access to US 20 and rail lines.

Auburn EAST LLC believes the site can once again be used for heavy industrial operations.

“The former Alco/Bombardier complex isn’t simply another shuttered factory; for many Auburnians it is deeply personal. It is a reminder of a much different time, and many of us have memories of family members who worked and lived in that neighborhood. Nearly 20 years after its closure, there is now real possibility for a new beginning and a brighter future for this site and for the “West End” of Auburn. Commercial Development Company has a proven track record and I want to personally thank them for choosing to invest in Auburn,” said Auburn Mayor Jimmy Giannettino.

For over 120 years, the site manufactured diesel engines and rail transportation equipment. Bombardier Transportation closed the Auburn facility in 2006.
