Hobart & William Smith’s Finger Lakes Institute may once again collect data on Owasco Lake and its watershed.
The Cayuga County Legislature’s Ways and Means Committee voted Wednesday to advance a resolution allowing the legislature’s chair to execute an agreement with the Finger Lakes Institute to use a buoy to monitor and collect data on the health of Owasco Lake and its watershed.
Back in March, the legislature voted to not renew an agreement with the institute to collect lake data; however, after the Planning and Economic Development Committee put out a request for fee quotes for the lake’s monitoring, the institute was found to be the only area group able to do the work.
Auburn City Council has expressed its support for the continued partnership between the county and the institute.
The motion will come before the full legislature at its meeting next Tuesday.
