A serious two‑vehicle crash in Cayuga County left a driver trapped and prompted a medical helicopter response shortly after noon on Monday.

Cayuga County 911 dispatched Genoa Rescue, Southern Cayuga Instant Aid and mutual aid from the King Ferry Fire Department to a reported collision involving a truck and a car on State Route 90 between East Venice Road and McAllister Road. Emergency responders, including multiple fire units and rescue crews, arrived within minutes.

Upon arrival, first responders confirmed a vehicle occupant was seriously trapped, prompting an “all hands” response and a request for assistance from Locke Fire & Rescue to help detour traffic. A medevac flight from LifeNet of New York 7‑12 was also accepted.

Crews immediately provided patient care, stabilized the scene and removed the trapped occupant from the vehicle, which was completed about 30 minutes after dispatch. The victim was placed into a Southern Cayuga ambulance for transport. The truck driver refused medical treatment at the scene.

The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police and Morey’s Towing also assisted at the scene. After rescue operations concluded, responders turned the scene over to State Police and continued traffic control until around 4:45 p.m.

In a statement, the Genoa Volunteer Fire Department extended thanks to all mutual aid partners for their coordinated effort.
