Downtown Auburn will be busy on Saturday.
24 different downtown businesses will offer specials as part of Small Business Saturday. Deals include discounts on merchandise, gift card incentives, special deals, raffles, and more. Assistant Director of the Auburn Downtown Business Improvement District, Jesse Kline, told Finger Lakes News Radio that these businesses are vital to a vibrant downtown and that Small Business Saturday is a great way to support them.
“The bottom line that I’d like to get across is that, if we want to have a thriving downtown, we have to put our money where our money is and support these businesses.”
Participating businesses include Cafe 108, Reuse Refuge, Sam’s Shoe Service, and Speno Music. Additionally, Atelier/ Creative Studio will hold a pop-up vendor sale from 10:00a-1:00p and Auburn Public Theater will host free showings of Mr Magoo’s Christmas Carol followed by How the Grinch Stole Christmas from 3:00-4:00p. A full list of participating businesses and their deals can be found here.
Kline added that new Downtown Auburn gift certificates are now available for purchase. These cards can be used at 38 different businesses in the downtown area. Gift cards can be purchased at the Equal Rights Heritage Center (cash or check only) or online.
Saturday is also the 37th annual Holiday Parade and Tree Lighting Ceremony. Pre-parade activities will take place from 2:00-5:00p at the Equal Rights Heritage Center. Activities include a holiday sing-along with Julie Howard and Mike Doyle, Royal Promises Frozen characters, Jeff the Magic Man, and 4-H family crafts. The parade begins at 5:00p on Genesee Street, making its way downtown before finishing at City Hall.
Following the parade, Mayor Jimmy Giannettino will be joined by Mr and Mrs Claus to light the tree. New for this year, the lighting will take place at the ERHC, not City Hall.
While not a part of the BID, the Cayuga Museum will hold a soft opening after being closed for six months to allow for work on the West End Arts Campus. The museum will be open for free from 11:00a-2:00p.
