Time is running out to apply for the Cayuga County Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Cayuga course.

Jessica Wrench is the chamber’s Education and Resource Coordinator. She told Finger Lakes News Radio that the courses are targeted toward adults who are interested in becoming more involved in the community or are new to the area.

“We talk to community leaders and have great discussions about different topics within the community like education, healthcare, government, history, and we do in-depth deep dives into these topics and people can really get a feel for who the players are, what the community conversation is, and how they can get involved.”

Those enrolled in the course meet once a month over a period of nine months, Wrench continued, giving them ample time to learn the ins and outs of the county without overburdening them.

“This is a great way to meet new people, meet some community players, and get a real sense of who and what is going on in Cayuga County.”

Created in 1989, over 650 people have graduated from the program. Classmates tend to stay in touch as the course is a valuable tool for networking, according to Wrench.

Wrench added that spots are filling up fast and applications need to be in by September 1 with classes beginning on September 15. Application information can be found on the chamber’s website.
