Auburn City Council will vote Thursday on whether or not to seek state funding to rehabilitate a downtown building.
Following a public hearing last week, the council is set to vote on applying for a $2 million Restore NY grant for work at the former Chemung Canal Trust Company site. The money would be used to address inflation costs as prices have gone up since the project was scoped in 2019 under the city’s DRI Strategic Investment Plan.
The total project is estimated to cost $7,288,050.
The plan is to turn the 120 Genesee Street building into a mixed-use space with retail on the lower two floors and 14 market-rate apartments on the remaining upper floors. There are also plans in place to have a rooftop garden.
