Climate activists will hold a demonstration in Auburn on Friday.
Cayuga Climate Action will be in front of City Hall to support climate activism in Cayuga County.
Officials and advocates will speak at the event, including State Senator Rachel May. Auburn City Councilor Terry Cuddy will speak on how residents can petition the governor to help protect Owasco Lake and its watershed.
“One of the things that the City of Auburn has been asking for the last seven years is what’s known as a Total Maximum Daily Load which is a comprehensive clean-up plan that Owasco Lake is required to have by law,” Cuddy told Finger Lakes News Radio. “… we’re just not getting the kind of response from the state that we deserve, and we’re going to turn up the volume a little bit more.”
The demonstration comes one day after City Council will vote on a resolution requesting Governor Kathy Hochul take immediate action to develop a TMDL comprehensive clean-up plan for Owasco Lake. It will also ask her to compel state agencies to pass the Owasco Lake Watershed Rules and Regulations it sent to Albany three years ago.
The demonstration begins at 5:30p.
