Renovations to its junior-senior high school gym have forced changes to Weedsport Central School District’s annual Veterans Day celebrations.
This Thursday’s events will all be held at the elementary school’s John J Topichak Gymnasium.
Theresa Leonardi coordinates events for veterans at the district’s schools. She told Finger Lakes News Radio that, along with the location change, comes scheduling changes. The traditional ceremony and USO Show usually held at the junior-senior high school will have to take place at 8:00a this year due to the school’s schedule. The elementary ceremony will take place at 10:00a. There will be a repeat of the junior-senior high school events at 7:00p
The USO Shows see students play the roles of Bob Hope, Nancy Sinatra, Doris Day, and other famous performers, recreating Hope’s famous USO Shows from the 1950s through the 1970s.
Leonardi adds that all veterans and their families are welcome to attend.
