The Cayuga Nation has once again helped one local volunteer fire department acquire a new vehicle to help keep area residents safe.
Earlier this month, the Cayuga Nation donated $60,000 to the Union Springs Hose Company to support its acquisition of a rescue hovercraft, according to a press release from the nation. The craft will be used for “ice/mud/swamp operations and rescues over unstable or dangerous terrain.”
The release went on to say that the donation came after a meeting between Fire Chief Garret Waldron, 1st Deputy Chief Jessica Waldron, and Cayuga Nation Police Superintendent Michael DuBois on the importance of the vehicle to public safety and the safety of the fire company’s all-volunteer force.
The nation has previously financially assisted the fire company, including donations to help it purchase its UTV One and Rescue Two vehicles.
The Union Springs Hose Company operates out of the Village of Union Springs and protects approximately 3,000 people across 28 square miles.
