Two new exhibits will launch next month at the Cayuga Museum of History and Art.
Life on the Lake will explore the history of recreation on Owasco Lake.
“We have a number of objects related to the history of how people have been using Owasco Lake,” Director of Development and Outreach Geoff Starks told Finger Lakes News Radio. “This is a way to look at the objects and the history of the lake through that historical context.”
Starks added that the museum has a special connection to recreation on the lake as Casowasco, at the southern end of the lake, was the vacation home of Theodore Case. Case sold his 203 Genesee Mansion and research lab to the museum where it remains today.
The second exhibit features items from the museum’s over 150,000 strong collections selected by staff for display, giving visitors a chance to view artifacts that may not often be seen by the public.
Also for April, the Case Research Lab reopens for tours, letting attendees see the birthplace of talking pictures.
The new exhibits and lab will open on April 17. The museum will be open from 11:00a-4:00p Wednesday – Saturday with tours available on the hour from 11:00a-3:00p. The exhibits will remain open until the museum closes for construction of the West End Arts Campus, something anticipated to begin in the summer.
The museum will be closed from April 10-13 to allow for installation of the exhibits.
