Cayuga County Women’s Political Club Celebrates Centennial

Spearheaded by men and women across the Finger Lakes, the 19th amendment to the US Constitution was ratified in 1920, giving women the right to vote. Three years later, The Cayuga County Women’s Republican Club was formed

The club is celebrating its centenary this year.

Sue Dwyer with the group told Finger Lakes News Radio, whether conservative or liberal, these organizations are still important today for women interested in politics. She also adds that they’re about more than just promoting female candidates or encouraging women to vote, but also help to educate on where a party’s principles and allow for discussion on issues.

In honor of 100 years as a club, they will hold a celebration on May 20th at the Springside Inn featuring cocktails, living history, and vintage political items for sale.

The event is open to the public but reservations must be made by Friday.
