Cayuga County Town Files Lawsuit After Ex-Town Supervisor

SHARE NOW

A local town is seeking more than $36,000 from its former supervisor over allegations of theft.

The Auburn Citizen reports Throop has filed a lawsuit in Cayuga County Court against former Town Supervisor William Tarby, claiming he stole over $36,000 from town accounts over a 10-year period. The suit alleges Tarby wrote checks to himself and made unauthorized withdrawals while attempting to hide the transactions from the town board. Tarby previously pleaded guilty in 2024 to stealing just shy of $11,000 in his final three years as supervisor.

Town officials say the new lawsuit seeks restitution for additional funds they say were taken but weren’t part of the earlier criminal case.
