The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office and the Finger Lakes SPCA of Central New York are working to create an animal abuse registry to prevent further cruelty to animals.
Speaking on FLX Morning with Ted Baker, Sheriff Schenck explained that the registry would be publicly available and contain information on individuals who have been convicted of crimes related to animal abuse. This would help ensure that those individuals do not have access to additional animals.
“As we see oftentimes, unfortunately, individuals who do that type of thing continue to procure pets and continue to abuse animals.”
While discussions between the two entities are in the preliminary stages, the sheriff is optimistic the registry will come to fruition and help keep animals in Cayuga County safe.
