Cayuga County Sees Spike in Suspected Overdoses

There was a spike in overdoses in Cayuga County last month.

According to data from the county, at the time of reporting, Cayuga County saw 22 overdoses in July, including one fatality. This represents the highest number of monthly overdoses so far in 2024.

63.6% of the suspected overdoses took place within Auburn city limits and 22.7% are believed to have involved opioids. Narcan was administered in 27.3% of cases.

Cayuga County has seen 91 overdoses, including five fatalities, so far in 2024. This represents a decline from last year, which saw 102 overdoses in the same span of months, including four fatalities. 2021, which has the highest number of suspected overdoses on record with Cayuga County’s overdose dashboard, saw 181 overdoses between January and July, 11 of which were fatal.
