Cayuga County Projects Awarded State Funding

Over $463 million has been awarded to support a variety of programs throughout New York as part of the state’s Regional Economic Development Council (REDC) initiative, including several in Cayuga County.

The funding, announced by Governor Kathy Hochul on Thursday, comes from various state agency programs and will help “catalyze economic growth, jump-start housing growth, and advance regionally designed strategic plans, while addressing state priorities.”

“I remain grateful for everyone involved in advancing the work of the Regional Economic Development Councils. Their dedication to this ongoing public-private effort has had a transformational impact in every corner of the state,” Governor Hochul said.

In Cayuga County, four projects have received funding.

Mozaic and Colloca Estate Winery have each received funding through Empire State Development’s Regional Council Capital Funds Program. Mozaic, a nonprofit serving those with intellectual and developmental disabilities, has been awarded $350,000 to renovate its Auburn facility to provide dedicated space for computer access, pre-vocational and vocational training, and classrooms for life skills and other developmental programming. Colloca has been awarded $400,000 to develop a boutique hotel and conference center at the Sterling winery, offering suites, event and conference space, spa and wellness space, and dining and bar services, to create a new tourism destination in the county.

Through the office of Community Renewal’s Community Development Block Grant Program, the Village of Weedsport has received $2,000,000 to replace its aging water infrastructure.

The First Presbyterian Church of Auburn has been awarded $141,867 through the Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation’s Environmental Protection Fund. The money is earmarked to repair and replace the roofing systems at the historic Case Mansion at 108 South St to address threats to the building and allow for its continued use as a retreat center, event space, and educational resource.
