Nearly $400,00 is coming to various Cayuga County agencies to continue the state’s fight against gun violence.
As part of New York’s Gun Involved Violence Elimination initiative, four agencies within the county will share in the $372,034 awarded by the state to continue to combat gun-related crimes. The Auburn Police Department has been awarded $182,517, the Cayuga County District Attorney’s Office $82,197, the Cayuga County Probation Department $80,320, and the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office $27,000.
In neighboring Onondaga County, $3,252,435 has been allocated to support their endeavors; the Onondaga County District Attorney has been awarded $1,101,720, the Onondaga County Probation Department $370,211, the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office $450,000, and the Syracuse City Police Department $1,330,504.
“My top priority is public safety, and since taking office, my administration has been laser-focused on working with local law enforcement to drive down gun violence across New York communities,” said Governor Hochul. “New York’s GIVE initiative is a crucial part of our comprehensive plan to reduce shootings and firearm-related violent crime — and it’s working. But we will not stop fighting for safer streets until all New Yorkers feel safe.”
Across the state, New York has awarded $36 million toward the GIVE initiative to 28 communities.
