Two Cayuga County candidates have received the support of a law enforcement union.

The Cayuga County Deputy Sheriff’s Police Association Local 9820 announced it has endorsed District Attorney Brittany Grome Antonacci in her reelection bid and Chris Valdina for Cayuga County judge. Both are running on the Republican and Conservative Party lines.

In its announcement, the CCDSPA said Grome Antonacci has “maintained a professional, respectful working relationship with our deputies and consistently recognizes the importance of the work they do.” The union cited this, along with her integrity and leadership, as its reasons for supporting her.

In its decision to back Valdina, the union said, “We are confident Chris will administer justice with fairness, compassion, and a firm dedication to the rule of law.”

Valdina, who has worked for over 25 years in the Cayuga County District Attorney’s Office, is facing off against Democrat-backed Ben Susman, an Auburn-based attorney, to succeed Judge Thomas Leone, who announced he would not seek reelection.
