The Cayuga County 4-H Youth Fair isn’t until August but work is underway on a new event.
This year will see the first Annual Market Livestock Auction with animals raised by 4-H members. Cornell Cooperative Extension Agriculture Program Educator Ron Kuck says that this is great hands on learning for the youth.
“Part of the program is [the kids] raising [the livestock] up at their farm or their home farm,” Kuck told Finger Lakes News Radio. “They have to account for all their costs, feed costs, labor, bedding. Then there’ll be a show that will culminate in an auction where the public can come and place bids on all these animals.”
The auction will take place August 5th at the conclusion of the Cayuga County 4-H Youth Fair at the Union Springs Fire Department.
