The Cato-Meridian School District has named its next superintendent.
The district announced on Thursday that Dee Froio has been unanimously appointed by the board to be the district’s next superintendent, effective July 1.
Board of Education President Kathy Bratt said, “We are thrilled to welcome Dee Froio to Cato-Meridian. Her depth of experience, unwavering dedication to student growth, and vision for the future make her the ideal leader for our district. We are confident she will build upon our strengths and guide us toward continued excellence.”
The announcement ends a months-long search that began in January after Dr Terry Ward stepped down as district superintendent. In February, the district outlined its process for choosing its next superintendent, holding two rounds of confidential interviews. This led to Dee Froio and Kasey Dolson being named as the two finalists, with Froio winning out.
In accepting the appointment, Froio said, “It is truly an honor to serve the Cato-Meridian school community. I’m excited to listen, learn, and lead alongside our students, staff, families, and community members as we build on our proud tradition of excellence. The future is bright, and I look forward to shaping it alongside this incredible community.”
Froio began her teaching career at Cicero-North Syracuse High School, teaching social studies in grades 10-12 from 2001-2008. From there, she moved into a variety of roles, including Acting Principal in the Baldwinsville Central School District and Principal of Dennis M Kenney Middle School in Hannibal. She currently serves as the Hannibal School District’s Assistant Superintendent for Teaching, Learning, and Accountability.
A Syracuse University alumna, Froio earned a Bachelor of Arts in History and Psychology in 1998, a Master of Science in Social Studies Education in 2000, and a Certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Leadership in 2008.
Michael Hoose has been serving as interim superintendent during the search process.
