Auburn Mayor Jimmy Giannettino administered the Oath of Office for the city’s new Chief of Police Matthew Androsko at Thursday’s City Council meeting. Androsko took over from James Slayton, who retired on January 21st.
Androsko held a number of positions during his tenure with the Auburn Police Department prior to being named Chief. He has served as a patrolman, evidence technician, field training officer, member of the Emergency Response Team, member of the Finger Lakes Drug Task Force as both a narcotics investigator and later as supervisor, supervisor of the hostage negotiations team, shift commander, drone unit supervisor, patrol supervisor, SRO and Special Patrol Officers supervisor and ran the Gun Involved Violence Elimination Unit (GIVE).
Androsko earned an associate degree in Criminal Justice at Cayuga Community College and a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Justice and Forensic Science from SUNY Oswego.
