The Auburn YMCA’s Early Learning Center will soon undergo a refresh and expansion as it continues to provide childcare throughout the community.
Speaking on FLX Morning with Paul Szmal, Kim Cuipylo, Director of Early Learning at the Auburn YMCA, said she secured a $1.5 million grant to expand programming and renovate the center.
“I think the big thing is the need in the community; there is very little infant and toddler care… [The grant] allows us to not only reshape the Y program as it currently is but also to add these additional classrooms and meet the needs of the community.”
Cuipylo stated that, in September, the Y will install a toddler playground on the current patio and turn the site’s ramp entrance into the entrance for the Early Learning Center, meaning parents will no longer need to walk around the building to use the front entrance on William St.
A toddler classroom opened at the Y in December 2024. Cuipylo added that, through the grant, a second toddler classroom and three infant classrooms are slated to be added to the center. No start date has been announced yet, but Cuipylo said that the Y hopes to start one of the infant classrooms by this time next year and that the scope of the project must be completed by December 2027.
Additionally, the Y is working on creating new school-age programs and partnering with additional school districts to expand the scope of its offerings.
