Auburn Urges Public to Avoid Owasco River, Warns of Localized Flooding

SHARE NOW

Due to heavy rains, the City of Auburn is warning of an increased risk of flooding and potential related dangers.

Because of the past several days of rain throughout the Owasco Lake Watershed area, flow in the Owasco River is expected to remain above 1,000 cubic feet per second over the next few days.

The city is advising people to stay away from or use extreme caution near the Owasco River. It is also warning of localized flooding at not only the Owasco River but also other streams in and downstream of the city.

The Department of Municipal Utilities will monitor the flow and the impacts of any flooding. Once lake elevation and upstream flows have normalized, flow in the river will be reduced.
