With many seeing Memorial Day as the kickoff to summer and tourism season in the Finger Lakes, Auburn and Cayuga County are on track to return to pre pandemic levels of visitors.
Gillian Sears with the Equal Rights Heritage Center says they’re expecting tourism to the area to near or meet levels seen before the pandemic. She told Finger Lakes News Radio “projections for 2023 suggest a continuation for the increase in visitation and tourism in Auburn, Cayuga County, and the Finger Lakes region.”
Sears adds that June, July, and August are peak tourism months for the area.
During its first year of operation in 2019, the Equal Rights Heritage Center & Auburn NY Visitors Center recorded over 20,000 visitors. In 2020, under 5,000 were recorded; however, that number has been increasing with 2022 seeing over 10,000 visitors to the center.
