The City of Auburn is set to settle a claim with the Auburn Enlarged City School District (AECSD) after a sewer line backed up and caused approximately $22,000 worth of damage at Seward Elementary School last year.
City Council will vote Thursday on a resolution in which the city agrees to reimburse the school district $22,115.83 for the cost of clean-up associated with the incident in exchange for the district releasing the city from any liability, thus avoiding litigation. The AECSD Board of Education has already approved the settlement agreement.
The incident inciting the claim occurred on February 6, 2024, when, according to city officials, a sewer line serving Seward backed up, causing damage to the school as a result of a city project on Metcalf Drive.
