Housing Visions, a Syracuse-based nonprofit, has purchased three properties in the city to help provide affordable housing.
At Thursday’s City Council meeting, council approved selling the city-owned properties at 19-21 Venice St, 17-19 Derby Ave, and 41 Lansing St to the nonprofit in order to transform them into affordable housing.
Speaking on FLX Morning with Paul Szmal, City Clerk Chuck Mason explained the work Housing Visions will do.
“[They plan to] renovate the house, get it back up to code, get it back up to standards… and then be able to rent it out or sell it to low-income individuals.”
Mason expects work to take place over the next few years.
“It’s great that the city was able to get three of these properties into the hands of Housing Visions who has done this work for the city successfully in prior years.”
Housing Visions has previously transformed properties on Washington and Orchard Streets into low-income housing.
