The Auburn Enlarged City School District has released a statement regarding alleged social media posts made by district employees following the murder of Conservative commentator Charlie Kirk.
In a letter written by Superintendent Dr Misty Slavic on Monday, the district said it was made aware of concerns raised about the posts. With this being a personnel matter, Slavic stated the district must act in accordance with state law, contracts, and district policy. It also cannot discuss specifics about the case.
The Cayuga County Conservative Party and former Republican State Senate candidate Caleb Slater have criticized the posts, with Slater calling for the employees’ removal.
Last week, a Naples school employee was placed on administrative leave after comments were made about Kirk on social media.
The text of Dr Slavic’s letter can be read below.
Dear Auburn Enlarged City School District Community:
The Auburn Enlarged City School District is aware of concerns that have been raised regarding recent social media posts by district employees. Please understand that personnel matters must be handled in accordance with state law, contractual obligations, and district policy, and we are not at liberty to discuss the specifics of any individual case.
What I can share is that our district takes these matters very seriously. When concerns arise, we follow established procedures to review the situation carefully and take appropriate action.
Above all, our priority is maintaining a safe, supportive, and respectful learning environment for every student in our schools. We remain committed to upholding the values of our district and ensuring that our staff model the professionalism our community expects.
By showing compassion and civility, we not only strengthen our community but also model the very values we hope to instill in our students. Together, we will continue building schools that are safe, supportive, and welcoming for all.
Sincerely,
Dr. Misty Slavic
Superintendent of Schools
