The Auburn Police Department is looking into a social media post alleging threats to the Auburn Enlarged School District’s junior high school.
Police said in a Facebook post that they have spoken to District Superintendent Doctor Misty Slavic about plans to increase patrols in and around the district’s schools. Officers were alerted to the threat on Monday and are encouraging parents to speak with their children about the severity of making such threats.
They add that reposting threats makes it harder for law enforcement to determine the original threat if any was made.
According to the district, while there is no direct threat to area schools in this specific case, additional staff will also be onsite to help improve safety.
The district is also reminding students and staff that school counselors are available for those who may feel anxious about recent events.
On Sunday night, authorities in Broome, Chemung, and Tompkins Counties were alerted to threats made on social media targeting schools in their respective districts.
